About – Approaching 50 and Fabulous

I am Miranda Allen, the 49 year old NYC based creator and author of Approaching 50 and Fabulous, a style of life, not a lifestyle blog.

My 24 year old son died of a massive brain injury on February 11, 2016. My family has suffered an unimaginable loss. His brothers are 21 and 17. We are beginning the tough journey of grief, bereavement and maybe one day, a new normal.

Previously, my style of life was centered around creativity, fitness, nutrition, humor, motivation, empowerment and finding extraordinary beauty in the little things. I hope to now find balance.

I am an advocate for literacy and mentoring. I volunteer with a number of charitable organizations that support excellence in education and career development.

Hi Miranda, I have only just stumbled on your blog and wanted to say how incredibly sad I feel for you on the loss of your son after reading your last post. Although you don’t know me, (I am a 50 yo woman from Australia with a family and a love of life and travel) I just wanted to let you know that my prayers and thoughts are with you. I feel your pain and shed some tears reading your post. My mum is in a home after having had two failed brain operations last year so I have been (and still am) on a journey of loss and mourning. And a long sad goodbye. But you never got a chance to say goodbye to your son which is heartbreaking. Sending wishes of love and support from Australia.
