Happy Monday my Fabulous Friends!
This weekend I had the pleasure of watching Demi Lovato perform on Saturday Night Live. She knocked it out of the park. I immediately went onto Apple Music and placed her new album into My Music section so I could listen offline.
I have to admit, previously I was not a fan. I had immediately assumed she was just another “name” and placed her in the same genre as Ariana Grande, Justin Bieber and other tween-centric performers. Here today, given an annoying amount of press and media coverage, gone tomorrow.
Demi’s back story is different from the rest and learning about her changed my mind. She is a courageous young woman, who at 22, has gone through devastating circumstances many do not recover from, and come out stronger.
As a young adult, Demi struggled with bulimia, cutting and drug addiction before being diagnosed with bipolar disorder. She is now the spokesperson for Be Vocal: Speak Up for Mental Health.
Getting a diagnosis was kind of a relief. It helped me start to make sense of the harmful things I was doing to cope with what I was experiencing. ~ Demi Lovato
Demi wants women to know that “it’s possible to live well, feel well and also find happiness with bipolar disorder or any other mental illness they’re struggling with.” ~ Women’s Health
Demi’s new album, Confident, is her statement to living authentically. She wants to embrace the woman she has become and move forward.
“Her willingness to own every step and misstep, and to show her audience how the rough times helped her become the woman she is, makes Confident a surprisingly compelling listen.” ~ Billboard.com review
Today’s power song is the title track – “Confident.”
Directed by Robert Rodriguez and co-starring Michelle Rodriguez, the video plays out like an full-throttle action movie.
