Today’s power song is “Titanium” by David Guetta featuring Sia. This song always brings me up when I am down. It reminds me that no matter what the world throws my way, I am bulletproof. I can remain strong.
I am not a fan of the official video, I personally don’t think it does this power song justice.
After the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting in December 2012, “Titanium” was pulled from radio stations in the US due to the use of gun-related lyrics in the song. “Titanium” is part of a group of songs that have been taken off the air, including Kesha’s “Die Young”, and “Pumped Up Kicks” by Foster the People.
Personally I disagree with the decision to take the song off the air, because the references to bullets are figurative in meaning and not literal. Bullets represent the anger and hostility that life and or people can bring your way. There are far more violent and “gun-toting” songs out there that should be removed from the air.
Please note I am in no way downplaying the Sandy Hook tragedy. That was senseless, horrible and will forever be part of tragic memories.
For me, the song represents resilience in the face of adversity. I listen to it and am reminded that I can face anything head on and be triumphant. If you agree or disagree on this topic, I welcome your feedback!
