Real Woman, Real Weight, No Excuses – SUGAR COMA Monday

HOLY MOLY!!!  Am I over-sugared!!  Today is Day 1 of my detox.  I never realized the amount of sugar in the supposedly healthy foods that I was eating. 

As of today, I have committed to follow the premise of The 100 plan by Jorge Cruise. 

I downloaded The 100 and read it while on my vacation last week.  It is an easy read and gives you a complete history of human nutritional habits from the Paleolithic era through today, the “History of Heft”.

Yes I read it while drinking Mango Tangoes by the pool, hey I am not perfect!

Once The 100 explains the history of our food sources (including the fact that most junk and convenience foods were created in the 20th century), you learn the impacts of this history on our bodies. 

The 100 discusses proteins, carbohydrates, fats and sugars in all forms. 

It sources a diet plan that is much more traditional and natural to our bodies, whole proteins, vegetables, fruits, even a glass of wine (or 2) a day.  The main guideline is to keep to 100 Sugar Calories per day.  There is a formula to calculate 100 Sugar Calories, it’s explained in the book. 

There is a list of foods you can eat versus monitor or avoid; along with sample menu plans, recipes, words of wisdom and motivation. Jorge’s book was like talking with a friend, he has a very pleasant style. 

You’re not starving, that’s for sure, as I write this. I am NOT hungry.  I am however feeling the effects of little to no sugar all day

I made some significant changes day 1:

Breakfast/Usual:

  • 2 slices of whole grain toast with butter
  • Starbucks Venti Coffee, 3 pumps vanilla syrup and coconut milk
  • Vegan protein shake 

Breakfast/Today:

  • Egg, spinach and broccoli omelette 
  • 3 slices of turkey bacon
  • Starbucks Venti Coffee, coconut milk and stevia. 
  • Vegan Protein Shake

Lunch/Usual:

  • Honey Mustard Chicken wrap 
  • Side salad with oil/vinegar

Lunch/Today:

  • Grilled chicken cutlet on a bed of spinach with 1 tomato and Parmesan cheese. 
  • 5 tsp of balsamic dressing (yes teaspoons)

Snack/Usual:

  • Yoplait Whips Yogurt OR
  • Trail mix with dried fruit OR
  • 20 almonds

Snack/Today:

  • Mozzarella cheese stick
  • 10 almonds

While writing this, I arrived home from work and the carbohydrate filled dinner choices always abound (I have 3 sons who are huge pasta eaters).  

Dinner/Usual:

  • Pasta with Chicken or artichokes 
  • Sauvignon Blanc – 1 glass / about 5 oz.

Dinner/Tonight:

  • Zucchini “pie” with eggs and a phyllo crust. Scraped off half the top and bottom crust. 
  • Homemade lump crab cake 
  • Sauvignon Blanc – 3 oz  

I added everything I ate today into MyFitnessPal and this is what’s remaining in nutrients (nutrient breakdowns are available in premium subscription).  

  

Usually my Carbohydrates would be at 40% of my daily nutrient intake. Today they’re 17%. I feel a little foggy, not as sharp as my usual self.  According to Jorge it takes about a week for the body to adjust to less sugar intake. 

It’s taken me 4 edits to get my blog finished today

It’s day 1 and four weeks to go. I hope the premise behind The 100 helps me banish this 15 lbs I gained, and get back to the weight my body is most comfortable in.

    This sounds great, would love to cut back on my sugar intake! And the book sounds fantastic it’s next on my list 🙂

      Thank you! Please let me know what you think! I must admit that wine totally spiked my desire for a piece of something sweet. Argh. I am going to have some lemon water and hope it subsides.
